Somatic immersive

Work with me one on one to renegotiate trauma that is stuck in the body. Many people make their way to somatics have “done the work”, but it didn’t quite work. Do you experience anxiety, feel flooded or out of control of your emotions, have a trigger (or a few)?

Somatic work might be for you if you feel like your life looks great on paper, but something is off, you’re having a hard time moving on or letting go, you’re repeating patterns you’ve tried to break, you’ve spent time in other modalities and your trauma is still present.

This one on one work is not only specific to divorce, and can address any stress response of the body - think heart rate increase, lump in your throat, tensing up, being on the edge of tears or going blank when you get stressed.

Nervous system work takes time, so this 12 week Somatic Immersive is for someone who is really ready to get to the root. We're unwinding things that have been in your system for years or maybe even decades. This work is gentle and gradual so it takes some time, but we'll get there.

What to expect

  • We will begin with a brief overview of the nervous system and establishing safety in your system.

  • Unlike traditional counseling or talk therapy, there is a lot less talking about the story, the context, the why or what actually happened that you are aiming to address through somatic work.

  • In each session we will go between “safety” and “activation” to give your nervous system time and space for the survival response to complete.

  • We will notice together what is happening in the body and I am trained to track your nervous system and the survival responses that are present.

  • You are welcome to bring specific topics to each session, or we will work with what is present in your system or what is included in your intake.

  • Weekly virtual sessions are 60 minutes on Zoom, and scheduled via Calendly.

✺ Frequently asked questions ✺

  • Yes. We are working through the response of the nervous system and not to the specific details of your story or your trauma. We are tracking what is happening in the body to allow the survival response to resolve instead of retraumatizing you.

  • It depends. For many individuals, they find somatic work supportive to their sessions with a clinician. Approaching your healing and growth comprehensively is recommended.

  • Your cognitive mind and your nervous system speak different languages. You might be able to explain your experience, and yet you are still being impacted by it regardless of your level of understanding. Somatic work address the stuck survival response in the body.

The word trauma gets tossed around, but in the somatic space, trauma is the stuck survival response to any overwhelming event that was too much, too soon or too fast for the body to properly access safety.

Understanding a situation intellectually doesn't translate to how the body interpreted things when it was trying to survive. For example: I know I'm safe, but why is my heart racing after seeing a text pop up from my ex?

  • Trauma renegotiation takes time. Trauma is layered, multifaceted, and intertwine into lots of emotions and experiences in your life. Somatic work is very powerful, and intentionally gradual, gentle and so it might feel really slow - especially if you are looking for some specific results.

We are literally re-wiring your brain and establishing a new foundation for how you experience the world.

  • No. We’re not after constant regulation, but rather a flexible nervous system. You will still experience “activation”, emotions and sensations - but you will have tools to return to “safety”.

  • No. I can work with all people regardless of their relationship status. My training is universal.
